Making a difference every day
Landmark Credit Union was originally charted in 1935 as the V.A. Credit Union to specifically serve the employees of the V.A. Hospital in Danville.
The credit union’s first office was located on the hospital grounds, and for the next 50 years credit union business was conducted in essentially the same manner. The business also provides service to BroMenn Healthcare in Bloomington, where many employees still take advantage of the services. In the early 1980s several smaller credit unions merged with it, and in 1986, the credit union was granted a community charter so that it could serve other residents of the immediate Danville area. The office was relocated to its present location at 506 W. Fairchild St. In 1988, the name was changed from the V.A. Credit Union to Landmark Credit. In 2003, Landmark merged with Westville Federal Community Credit Union and now has a branch location at 220 S. State St., Westville. In 2013, Landmark merged with Danville Consolidated Credit Union, adding a second branch location at 176 Eastgate Court, Danville. Today the credit union serves over 10,000 members.

Landmark Credit Union has partnered with Judith Giacomo Elementary School to bring the Backpack Program to them. This program targets children in need who would benefit from nutritious meals. Once a week children will be given a bag filled with nonperishable food that can be used to meet their weekend nutritional needs. The bags are put together by Landmark employees and delivered each week. At this time 35 children are being served; however, the need is much greater.
The Fast Cash Hands program is a hands-on reality fair to introduce the students to the financial responsibilities they are destined to face as adults. This opportunity will allow them some insight about using a checking and savings account and to provide basic life necessities while being tempted with life’s luxuries. The idea behind the program is to show the students the value of a dollar and just how fast their cash will disappear.
