Small Business Development Center Workshop: Starting Your Business in Illinois

Presented by Don Elmore, director of the Illinois Small Business Development Center at Champaign County EDC. Thinking about starting a business or expanding your own? This informative workshop helps entrepreneurs understand many of the steps and requirements of starting or growing a small business in Illinois. You’ll be taken step-by-step through a variety of topics and have the opportunity to ask questions. Topics covered: Introduction to the Illinois Small Business Development Center at Champaign County EDC; feasibility; business formation and registering your business; how to create or improve your business plan – an important part of starting or growing a small business; startup costs, ongoing expenses and forecasting; financing and grant options, including programs in Champaign County. Young Entrepreneur Program

Robeson Pavilion Room C, Champaign Public Library, 200 W. Green St., Champaign

The Young Entrepreneur Program (YEP) is an award-winning, innovative curriculum that seeks to engage, empower and educate Champaign County high school students through entrepreneurship. If you are a teen or know a teen who thrives in hands-on learning environments, marches to the beat of their own drum and is always looking for a new challenge, YEP is for you. Participants will be asked to create a small business over the course of two sessions in the fall and spring. The program culminates in a pitch competition, where participants have the opportunity to compete for prize money to seed their new venture. Students have the option to participate in a weekly coworking and mentorship meeting on the Mondays when formal meetings are not scheduled.
