EDITOR'S NOTE          September 2010

Go get your pants scared off

By Sarah Lohman
CIB Staff Writer

This month we featured Dallas & Co. Costumes and Magic in our Snapshot of Success. This business has grown substantially since it started, and its product line has grown more diverse through the years.

The photographer and I had a lot of fun wandering around the store's maze of a basement and seeing just how much stock Dallas keeps on hand. Where else can you find boxes of fake mustaches, noses, cigarette holders and rubber chickens side by side? They have enough beads to supply a Champaign-sized Mardi Gras party and any carnival prize you can think of.

There's no better time than the lead-up to Halloween to check this store out.

In previous years, I've gotten my pants scared off by their haunted room. I'm pretty jumpy, so you may not find it as scary, but it's still worth a trip to see it all decked out for Halloween. Just be careful, owner Andy Dallas may have a trick or two up his sleeve!

Are there any Champaign-Urbana businesses you've been itching to learn more about? Send me an e-mail at slohman@news-gazette.com and we'll add them to the list of future feature stories.
